
Experiential Learning Courses
Are you ready to move beyond the typical classroom? Talk with your advisor to learn more about the courses described below.
Supervised Research Courses allow you to earn course credit while you practice scientific methods as they apply in the fields of psychology or neuroscience. You will benefit from a personal mentoring relationship with a faculty member and interaction with other highly motivated psychology majors and graduate students.
- P493 Supervised Research. Active participation in research. An independent experiment of modest magnitude, participation in ongoing research in a single laboratory.
- P494 Supervised Research II. A continuation of P493. Course will include a journal report of the two semesters of work.
- P495 Readings and Research in Psychology. P: Written consent of instructor, junior or senior standing.
- P499 Honors Thesis Research. P: Approval of the departmental honors committee. May serve as advanced lab requirement.
Psychology Teaching Internship. Are you interested in learning what goes on "behind the scenes" as professors plan courses and develop tests and assignments? Are you considering teaching as a career? Undergraduate psychology or neuroscience majors with a minimum grade point average of 3.500 and permission of the instructor are eligible to enroll in P356. You will receive supervised experience assisting in an undergraduate course and attend a weekly discussion of good teaching practices. Students will complete a project related to the aims of the course in which they are assisting. Service-Learning Courses allow you to earn course credit while challenging you to use knowledge and skills acquired in your college classes to meet genuine community needs. Check out the Office of Service Learning, the IU Community Partners and example course listings from Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 . Credits vary by course. Talk to your advisor for more information!
Internship - Theory Into Practice. Q398 and W499 are internship courses offered through the College of Arts & Sciences and administered by the Career Development Center. Q398 provides credit for your internship. W499 is a noncredit course used simply to maintain full-time student status.
